OCTO AI Gaming — CHROMA. Last updated October 2026.
During the beta, playing needs a free OCTO AI Gaming account (see Accounts below); beyond that account, CHROMA collects no personal information and uses no advertising trackers. During the beta, if you turn on Game Diagnostics below, CHROMA's diagnostics record things like which moves you made, how a level ended, the occasional hiccup, a random device id, the build number, your screen size and language — all so we can catch bugs and smooth out tricky levels. We never see your name, your contacts, your precise location, or your IP address (our server doesn't even keep it), and we never hand any of it to anyone else.
Your game progress (level stars, Ink, boosters, achievements, and settings) is saved on your own device, in your browser's local storage. Signed out, it is never transmitted anywhere, and clearing your browser data or uninstalling the app erases it. Signed in, your Ink balance and a summary of your stats are also kept on your account (see Accounts below), so they follow you to any device you sign in on.
CHROMA doesn't use any third-party analytics or advertising tools in the web version at octosigaming.com. If a future Android or app-store release adds rewarded ads (Google AdMob) or cloud saves (Google Play Games Services), this policy will be updated first, and those features will disclose what data they use before you enable them.
During the beta, an OCTO AI Gaming account is needed to play CHROMA and WAKE; the catalogue, lore and newsletter pages work without one. When you create an account we store your email address, a display name you choose, and a securely hashed password (never the password itself) on our own server. We email you once to confirm the address, when you ask us to (a password reset), and — only if you tick the box — for the optional newsletter about new hides and CHROMA news (see Newsletter below). We don't sell or share it, and you can delete the account and everything tied to it at any time from your account page (Delete account), or ask us to via the contact below.
Sign in with Google or Microsoft: if you choose one of these instead of a password, Google or Microsoft confirms who you are and sends us your email address, your name and a profile picture link, which we store as your account. We never see your Google or Microsoft password, and we don't get access to anything else in those accounts. Their own privacy policies cover what they record about the sign-in.
If you're signed in, your account also keeps your Ink balance and its history, a summary of your game stats, bug reports you send (with the build, device shape and recent game events attached), and your invite link. If you joined through someone's invite, we record that link so both of you can be rewarded; the person who invited you only sees that an invite is pending or qualified — never your name or email. A first-party cookie (octo_ref, 30 days) remembers which invite link you arrived from.
Scoreboard: if you're signed in, your chosen handle (or an anonymous one like Octo-7KQ2) and your game scores are shown publicly. We never show your name or email there. Admins can hide a handle.
Photos & friends: an uploaded photo is stored on our own server (never a third party) and shown wherever your gamer tag appears. Friends only see your gamer tag, photo and game scores — never your name or email. We keep who you're friends with, and who asked whom, only to run the feature; blocking someone is never revealed to them.
Chat with OCTO: OCTO is an AI helper, not a person, and it can be wrong. When you chat, your message is sent to the studio's own server (/api/octo) together with the current game state (which hide, goal, moves left and a summary of the board), and from there to the AI model service that writes the reply (Ollama Cloud, with Anthropic as a backup). We don't send your name or email with it, so please don't type personal details into the chat either. You can report any OCTO reply from inside the chat. A report keeps OCTO's reply, the reason you picked and your optional note so the studio can review it and improve OCTO's filters. So your chat is still there when you come back, your last 100 messages with OCTO are kept on this device (not on our server) for 30 days, separately for each account. Clear chat deletes them, and so does deleting your account from this device.
Age: OCTO AI Gaming accounts, OCTO chat, friends, photos and email news are for players 13 and older. Before you create an account we ask your birth month and year once. We keep only whether you are 13 or older, never the date. If you're under 13 you can still play on your own device without an account. If we learn an account belongs to someone under 13, we close it and delete its data. Parents and guardians can reach us at the contact below.
The newsletter is double opt-in: nothing is saved until you click the confirmation link we email you. Every newsletter carries an unsubscribe link, which works immediately. Sending is handled for us by Resend, which processes addresses only to deliver the email.
CHROMA sets no advertising cookies. Two categories apply, and you choose the second one:
Beta testers: see the Beta Test Agreement for the beta-specific terms and liability disclaimer.
